Amersham Town came from two goals down to win with a goal in the eighty eighth minute in this pulsating match at Spratley’s Meadow.

In keeping with their honourable tradition of conceding a goal in the first ten minutes, Amersham Town went behind after nine. Keeper Perry Cheadle misjudged the flight of a cross from Langford’s Bryn Williams and the ball drifted over his head and into the net.

Amersham responded immediately and, five minutes later, Scott Chapman beat three defenders in the penalty area and was unlucky to see his shot deflected and rebound off the post. Then Langford keeper, Grant Beckwith, made a point blank save from a Luke Harman header following a corner.

The second goal arrived on twenty four minutes. From a corner Town cleared the ball to the edge of the area where Langford’s Paul Garrett hit a shot with the outside of his foot which curled into the far corner of the net. A fine strike!

Amersham clawed a goal back four minutes after the break. Substitute Shane Eedop beat his man but his shot rebounded off the post to Ryan Forbes who knocked the ball past Beckwith. Straight from the kick off Langford’s dangerous forwards put the Amersham defence under pressure and Cheadle had to make a superb flying save to fingertip a cross shot round the post. Nine minutes later, however, Amersham drew level. Chapman again controlled the ball in the area. His shot took a wicked deflection, wrong footing Beckwith and rolling into the net.

The game was now end to end with the Amersham defence of Michael Aldridge, Miles Beavan, Adam Toone and David O’Connor standing firm throughout. Finally, with two minutes to go, Chapman broke free in midfield and passed to Forbes. Forbes’ pace took him free of the defence and he rolled the ball past the advancing Beckwith. Joy was unconfined.
